Warner, Charles - Dugout
This arched cave is built into an embankment way out in the middle of a section west of McDowell Creek Rd. According to neighboring property owners the people who homesteaded this site lived in this cave and never built another house on the property. They were supposed to have been a family of five living in this very unusually long and skinny cave. There is even a story of the boys hiding toys under a rock of the cave floor. The cave is made with rough hewn stone and seems to be dry stacked with mortar later used to fill in the joints. The family apparently moved away from the area and the site was never occupied again. This cave walks out to the west and measures 16’(L)x5.5’(W)x 7’(H).
