Auer, J. - Root Cellar
This arched cellar is built under a stone outbuilding that appears to be the last remaining original structures a property either homesteaded by J. Auer or Peter Thowe. The cave is completely underground and has a building overhead that was likely used as a smokehouse or wash house. The cave is accessed by a covered stairwell that opens out to the southeast. The cave has a potato shoot on the south side of the arch and a recessed shelf on the back wall. It measures approximately 14’(L)x9’(W)x 7’(H).
